PDU and SEU Info

A guide to earning your recertification/maintenance credits with International Institute for Learning, Inc.

Do you hold a certification with Project Management Institute or Scrum Alliance? If the answer is yes, then you can receive the following credits by attending International Project Management Day to maintain your respective certification.

What are PDUs?

Professional Development Units (PDUs) are one-hour blocks of time that you spend learning, teaching others, or volunteering. By accumulating and tracking these over a three-year period you can maintain your certification status with PMI^®.

PMI^® certifications have different requirements for the number of PDUs for maintenance. However, all have a three-year renewal cycle.

How do I report PDUs?

To report PDUs to PMI^®, perform the following steps:

Open your browser and go to PMI.org.
Click the Log In button located at the top right of the screen.
Enter your username and password.
Click on the MyPMI drop down and click “Dashboard”.
Click the “Report PDUs” button.

There are three categories of PDUs:

Ways of Working (formerly Technical Project Management)
Business Acumen (formerly Strategic Project Management)
Power Skills (formerly Leadership)

PDUs can fall into one or more categories.

What are SEUs?

Scrum Education Units (SEUs) are one-hour blocks of time that you spend continuing your Scrum education. This could be time spent reading articles, volunteering, attending events, and taking courses. Each hour equals one SEU. By accumulating and tracking these over a two-year period you can maintain your certification with Scrum Alliance.

SEU Requirements

Scrum Alliance certifications have different requirements for the number of SEUs needed for maintenance. However, all have a two-year renewal cycle. Find more information about requirements and how to claim SEUs with Scrum Alliance here.

How do I report SEUs?

You will need to report your SEUs directly with Scrum Alliance through your Scrum Alliance Dashboard. You will need the following information:

The category of SEU
The title of the session
The name of the speaker/facilitator
